Tor XV Match Reports

WSM II 5 - 27 Tor- Sat 8th October 2011

For the first time this season this was the game of two half’s. In the previous two weeks having been the better team in the first half and the not turning up for the second forty Tor finally put in the performance that everyone at the club knew they were capable of. With the selection committee having a few headaches this week with several members of the squad making themselves not available gave the opportunity to both young talent and old heads to get their chance.

With the game starting at a furious pace there where mistakes were made by both sides. The tor pack then put their marker down winning the penalty allowing Malone to take three points. Soon after the Tor pack gave Man of the Match Toby Payne the platform to break down the blindside then feeding Malone to sprit clear for his first try in Tor colours. Weston did get on the score sheet just before the break with a well controlled rolling maul.

With a stern talking too at have time by Webb Tor started the second half like they did the first with real intent and it soon apparent that Weston wouldn’t be able to keep up with pace that the Tor backs where putting on the ball. It was however the Rampaging Alex Payne that gave Tor there second try with great strength shown to get over the line. It was shortly after when this young tor side showed that they where maturing as a unit when a rush of blood by Austwick saw him having a ten minute rest behind the posts. This was when the whole team pulled their socks up and played for each other weathering some strong Weston attacks but always managing to come up with ball largely thanks to a fit again Tom Payne.

With the reintroduction of Austwick Tor went in search of more points which they found thanks to the lighting pace of both Jordan Hunt and Matt Stuggess. Malone adding the extras. With their second Bonus point win of the season and one supporter mentioning “it was an ok performance but you could do better” just shows that the whole squad is moving in the right direction.

Tor welcomes Chew Valley to Lowerside Park on Saturday hoping to continue their good form. KO 3.00pm.
