Tor RFC are Renaming
Tor RFC the Glastonbury based rugby club, currently playing in the Somerset Premier League are about to hold an event on Sunday 30th October 2011 to officially mark the renaming of their ground in Lowerside Lane Glastonbury as the BRIAN HARBINSON MEMORIAL PARK.
This is to commemorate the sad loss of their long standing President Brian Harbinson just over a year ago. New President Malcolm Dykes say's " Brian was the glue that held everything together at TOR. He not only knew so much about every facet of the club, but he was often rolling up his sleeves and getting stuck into the many areas of work that are required to keep a club such as Tor running. His lasting legacy is the club house and grounds we enjoy today. It was his hard work and dogged determination that ensured the club had a home after they were required to vacate their facilities to make way for the building of the current B&Q store and the units at Adlams Park in Glastonbury. If it hadn't been for Brian refusing to accept lesser offers we would not be blessed with the facilities we have today".
Club Chairman Bruce Williams added "It was therefore an easy decision to make when considering how to recognise his long standing commitment to the club as Player, Captain, Chairman, Treasurer and lastly President. His name will forever be connected with TOR RFC by the renaming of our ground".
To mark the occasion there will be a tree planting and laying of a memorial stone on the club grounds by his wife Lois and Daughters Lucy and Claire. This will be followed by a buffet and Match between TOR RFC Veterans and WELLS RFC Veterans.
All past and present friends, players and Members are invited to attend what promises to be a memorable milestone event in the clubs history. Gathering from 12 Midday for the renaming and buffet followed at 1400 KO for the veterans match.
